Jakaranda kinderhuis
Jakaranda Children's Home has been caring for disadvantaged children since 1987. The main goal in caring for these children is to uplift all traumatised children and to fulfill in their basic needs such as; security, stability, health care, food, clothing and affection. Jakaranda Children's Home is a part of the Abraham Kriel group of children's homes.
Situated in East Lynn Pretoria, the home cares for 250 children between the ages of 3 - 18 years old. The children are mainly placed by the children's court due to neglect and abandonment, physical or sexual abuse. Jakaranda Children's home caters for a number of different activities, all with a therapeutic undertone. Here group activities such as cycling, diving, cultural activities and sport play a major role. The Jakaranda cycling club is a group therapy programme and a main contributor to outdoor activities.
As one of the forerunners in the field of childcare in South Africa, Jakaranda Children's Home runs a number of therapeutic programmes to prepare these children for a better future. These programmes include a number of professional and support services that also reach out to the community. These services now also include a therapeutic centre for children with behavioural problems.
